Bsc Degree in Nursing (4 Years)
Objectives

On completion of the four year BSc Nursing programme the graduate will be able to:-

    1. Apply knowledge from physical, biological, and behavioural sciences, medicine including alternative systems and nursing in providing nursing care to individuals, families and communities.
    2. Provide nursing care based on steps of nursing process in collaboration with the individuals and groups. Demonstrate skills in teaching to individuals and groups in clinical and community health settings.
    3. Participate effectively as members of the health team in health care delivery system.
  • Provide promotive, preventive and restorative health services in line with the national health policies and programmes.
  • Demonstrate leadership and managerial skills and communicate effectively with individuals and groups, and members of the health team in order to promote effective interpersonal relationships and teamwork.
  • Conduct need based research studies in various settings and utilize the research findings to improve the quality of care.

Academic

Candidates seeking admission should satisfy the following requirements.

  • Candidates should pass PLUS TWO examination of the Board
    of Higher Secondary Education of Kerala or equivalent examination recognized by
    KUHSwith an aggregate of 50 % marks in Physics, Chemistry  Biology and 50%
    mark in English.
  • Candidates who passed their qualifying examination from outside the State of Kerala should produce the certificate of recognition and equivalence of qualifying examination from KUHS.
  • It is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure that the qualifying examination he/she has passed is recognized by the KUHSas eligible qualification for admission for BSc. Nursing course..
  • The candidate should produce migration certificate if it is needed.

Post Basic BSc Degree in Nursing – 2 years

  • It is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure that the qualifying examination he/she has passed is recognized by the KUHSas eligible qualification for admission for PcBSc. Nursing course.

Post Basic Diploma in Emergency and Disaster Nursing – One year

Objectives

  • Provide quality care in emergency and disaster situations.
  • Develop and understand the Philosophy, principles, methods and issues, management, education and research in emergency and disaster nursing
  • Teach nurses, allied health professionals, patients and communities in areas related to emergency and disaster nursing.
  • Develop skills and attitude in providing competent emergency and disaster nursing care.

Academic

  • Candidates who passed GNM / BSc Nursing examination of the recognized Board/ University with an aggregate 50 % of marks and should possess KNMC registration .
  • Candidate should have one year clinical experience from a recognized institution and should produce experience certificate on admission.
  • Nurses from other countries must obtain and equivalence certificate from INC before admission.

MSc Nursing – Two years

Objectives

On completion of the two year MSc Nursing programme, the Post graduates will be able to :

  • Utilize and apply the concepts, theories and principles of nursing science.
  • Demonstrate advance competency in practice of nursing science.
  • Practice as a nurse specialist.
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities and function effectively as nurse educator and manager.
  • Demonstrate skill in conducting nursing research, interpreting and utilizing the findings from health related research and biostatistics.
  • Demonstrate the ability to plan and effect change in nursing practice and in the health care delivery system.
  • Establish collaborative relationship with members of other disciplines.
  • Demonstrate interest in continued learning for personal and professional advancement.

Eligibility

  • The candidate should be a Registered Nurse and Midwife with Kerala State Nursing Council Registration.
  • The minimum education requirements shall be the passing of regular degree course in nursing – BSc Nursing / BSc Hons. Nursing/ Post Basic BSc Nursing), with minimum of 55 % aggregate marks.
  • The candidate should have undergone regular degree course in nursing (BSc. Nursing / BSc. Hons. Nursing / Post Basic BSc Nursing), in an institution which is recognized by Indian Nursing Council.
  • The candidate should have minimum one year of work experience after regular degree program or one year of experience before or after PcBSc nursing ( the working experience after the concerned nursing registration only will be considered)
