Objectives

On completion of the four year BSc Nursing programme the graduate will be able to:-

  • Apply knowledge from physical, biological, and behavioural sciences, medicine including alternative systems and nursing in providing nursing care to individuals, families and communities.
  • Provide nursing care based on steps of the nursing process in collaboration with the individuals and groups. Demonstrate skills in teaching to individuals and groups in clinical and community health settings.
  • Participate effectively as members of the health team in the health care delivery system.
  • Provide preventive and restorative health services in line with the national health policies and programmes.
  • Demonstrate leadership and managerial skills and communicate effectively with individuals and groups, and members of the health team in order to promote effective interpersonal relationships and teamwork.
  • Conduct need-based research studies in various settings and utilize the research findings to improve the quality of care.

Eligibility

Candidates seeking admission should satisfy the following requirements.

  • Candidates should pass PLUS TWO examinations of the Board of Higher Secondary Education of Kerala or equivalent examinations recognized by KUHS with an aggregate of 50 % marks in Physics, Chemistry & Biology and 50 % marks in English.
  • Candidates who passed their qualifying examination from outside the State of Kerala should produce the certificate of recognition and equivalence of the qualifying examination from KUHS.
  • It is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure that the qualifying examination he/she has passed is recognized by the KUHS as an eligible qualification for admission for BSc. Nursing course..
  • The candidate should produce a migration certificate if it is needed.

Age

  • The candidate should complete 17 years of age as of 31st December of the academic year.
  • No relaxation of the minimum age will be allowed.

MSc. Degreein Nursing

Objectives

Upon completion of the two years MSc Nursing programme, the Postgraduates will be able to:

  • Utilize and apply the concepts, theories and principles of nursing science.
  • Demonstrate advanced competency in the practice of nursing science.
  • Practice as a nurse specialist.
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities and function effectively as a nurse educator and manager.
  • Demonstrate skill in conducting nursing research, interpreting and utilizing the findings from health-related research and biostatistics.
  • Demonstrate the ability to plan and effect change in nursing practice and in the health care delivery system.
  • Establish a collaborative relationship with members of other disciplines.
  • Demonstrate interest in continued learning for personal and professional advancement.

Eligibility

  • The candidate should be a Registered Nurse and Midwife with Kerala State Nursing Council Registration.
  • The minimum education requirements shall be the passing of a regular degree course in nursing – ( BSc Nursing / BSc Hons. Nursing/ Post Basic BSc Nursing), with a minimum of 55 % aggregate marks.
  • The candidate should have undergone a regular degree course in nursing (BSc. Nursing / BSc. Hons. Nursing / Post Basic BSc Nursing), in an institution which is recognized by Indian Nursing Council.
  • The candidate should have a minimum of one year of work experience after a regular degree program or one year of experience before or after PBBSc nursing ( the working experience after the concerned nursing registration only will be considered)
