Antiragging

WHAT IS RAGGING?

  • Any conduct by a student or students whether by words spoken or written by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or any other student.
  • Indulging in rowdy or undisciplined activities by any student or students which causes or likely to cause annoyance, hardship, physical or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in any fresher or any other student.
  • Asking any student to do an act which such student will not in the ordinary course do and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame or torment or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique of such fresher or any other student.
  • Any act by a senior student that prevents, disrupts, and disturbs the regular academic activity of any other student or a fresher.
  • Exploiting the services of a fresher or any other student for completing the academic tasks assigned to an individual or a group of students.
  • Any act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure of burden put on a fresher or any other student by students.
  • Any act of physical abuse including all variants of it: sexual abuse, homosexual assaults, and stripping, forcing obscene and lewd acts, gestures causing bodily harm or any danger to the health of the person.
  • Any act or abuse by spoken words , emails, posts , public insults, which would also include deriving perverted pleasures, vicarious or sadistic thrill for actively or passively participating in the discomfiture to fresher or any other student.
  • Any act that affects the mental health or self confidence of a fresher or any other student with or without an intent to derive a sadistic pleasure or showing off power, authority and superiority by a student over a fresher or any other student.

ANTI RAGGINGPUNISHMENTS & POLICIES

Punishments

  • Suspension/ expulsion from the hostel
  • Suspension from attending classes
  • In every single incident of ragging a first information report (F I R)must be filed by the institutional authorities with the local police authorities.
  • Cancellation of admission
  • Debarring from appearing in any test/ examination
  • Expulsion from the college Suspension from attending classes
  • An appeal against the order of punishment by the anti ragging committee shall be made to the Vice –Chancellor of the Kerala University of Health Sciences. His/her decision in the matter shall be final.

  • Advertisement of admission (Anti ragging Law is included)
  • Prospectus( Anti-ragging Law is included)
  • Application Form (Consent from parents and candidates regarding Anti-ragging measures to be obtained in English/Malayalam)
  • Conduct Certificate/ Transfer Certificate ( Report on behavioural pattern of applicant, Punishment for ragging/violent/aggressive behaviour)
  • Hostel –
    • Consent from parents and candidates regarding Anti ragging measures to be obtained in English/Malayalam
    • Arrangement of segregation of freshers from immediate seniors.
  • Reconstitution of Anti ragging Committee on commencement of each academic year
  • Formation of Squad
  • Formation of ant ragging Monitoring cell
  • Induction Programme for Freshers including parents.
  • Fresher’s day (to be conducted within 2 weeks).
  • Anonymous random Surveys.
  • Hostel- Registration( with local police to be done).
  • Phone facility for the warden and freshers
  • Empowerment warden

ANTI RAGGINGMEASURES

Measures Taken During The Commencement Of Academic Year

  • Prepare Seniors through formal ant ragging sessions ( Signature to be obtained from the candidates )
  • Conduct Anti ragging campaigning through displaying Posters( showing ragging act- regulations, act and punishment, helpline) in the Notice Board, hot place, hostel, canteen etc ,
  • Conduct Seminars and role plays related to Anti ragging measures.
  • Form Monitoring cell.

Measures Taken On Admission Of Freshers

  • Provide printed leaflet to fresher’s ( Helpline, Antiragging measures, Safety Measures taken by the Institution)
  • Conduct Joint sensitization programme for Freshers and seniors.
  • Provide regular counseling to freshers and seniors by faculty and professionals.
  • Conduct Classes on personality development.
  • Encourage the students to report to the authority on incidence of ragging.

Measures To Be Taken At The END Of Academic Year

  • Send letter to parents ( regarding Law of ragging/ punishments) and requesting parents to inform their ward to desist from indulging in ragging, when they come back at the beginning of next Academic session.
  • Form monitoring cell (1 mentor for 10 freshers and 1 mentor from higher level for 10 mentors)
  • Plan and implement Ant ragging measures for the next academic year.

Measures Taken In The Hostel

  • Conduct soft skill and communication skill classes to wardens.
  • Provide Phone facility to warden and freshers.
  • Display of Posters containing rules and regulations of ragging/punishment in the notice board at places like corridors, dining hall, study hall etc
  • Appoint resident faculty, if any
  • Make surprise visits by the HOD, and assigned faculty.

Anti Ragging Monitoring Cell

Objectives
  • Ensure the safety of freshers inside the hostel and college
  • Make surprise raids in hostels and other hot spots
  • Inspect potential places of ragging
  • Investigate the incidence of ragging and recommendations to the anti-ragging committee.
